Blog lovin'

So, I feel I have really been neglecting my blog... And I have. Sorry, Blog :( but you're hard to keep updating!I forget you even exist sometimes, and I already have a book to write in... Although I have been neglecting that also. Goodbye, seven :(

In other news - my capsule collection is coming along swimmingly (get it - SWIMmingly LORL!)
I'm up to number 70-something in the design process and I've only done 1 and a half groups :D I'm going to have all the sketches DONE BY WEDNESDAY 26TH OF MAY... I hope.
Also This Thursday is out last lesson with Gillian (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!!!!!) and I'm going to have my ENTIRE SWIMSUIT DONE (EXCEPT FOR MAYBE THE MACRAME PART) BY THURSDAY 27 OF MAY!

Ugh...

The horror has gone. It's become the darkness.

I love this song! Even though it's a love song, I feel it fits with my concept and its so sad and emotional I want to cut my head off...

MY ACTUAL SWIMSUIT-MAKING PROCESS (in reverse) PART 1

And then I made 2 more bra cup toiles experiementing with where the cup come up to on the mid section. One this one the cup sits out of the top - so the top edge is not one smooth line. but is broken by the cup jutting out the top. Gettit?

To this! I added more allowance of the lower edge so the bra cup fits in nicely.

First toile. Suuuuper dodgey! there wasn't enough room to sew in the bra cups properly so I changed my pattern...

I elasticised the top edge then unpicked it and put it through my favourite machine - the binder instead!

All sewn up. (back and front) My very first pattern pieces I made with Gillian's help. (back and front)

We can not break bread with you.

Inspo for my capsule collection

Head dresses: why do I not have one?!

She looks as if she's at Woodford :)

Bones.

I don't know who this it, but she is wonderful!

Muahahaha! Devendra Banhart, I love. Somebody once said he is hobo in an i-look-like-i-stink-but-i-don't kind of way. I think this is a great little tid-bit of inspo! I want my collection to be hippie/hoboboho/nomad in a chic enough to not stink way.

Shwing

I have about 70 designs thus far and none that I really like...But I was just reminded of Xena Warrior Princess and how much of a righteous babe she was who happens to have AMAZING costumes. So hopefully now with her in mind, I can come up with something I will love.

Design Inspo

I saw Avatar again the other day - but this time instead of it being totally AMAZINGLY FANTASTICLY OH MY GOD HOLY CRAP WOW! I was looking at the costumes instead. I want my designs to be quite literally tribal.

ABOUT FACE

After I found these pics at 3am and then couldn't sleep because there was a boogey man under my bed... It made me feel totally ridiculous - like I was 7 years old again. If somebody is going to be wearing my swimwear, I don't want her to be feeling silly like a frightened child when she is a powerful, sexy and assertive woman. So i changed my concept. It is now about being the hunter. The wearer of my design will be a warrior, stalking the prey that once terrified her. The monsters in the dark learn to fear her - she feasts on their gnarled bodies and uses their skin and bones for clothing and jewels.
Roles have been reversed now and in a way - she has become a monster herself.

Feel the fear!

Joshua Hoffine
I love these! They are so fantastical and freaky! Exactly what I was looking for. The one with the monster hands coming out from under the bed relates SO well to my concept.

Liquid Illusions

I love these surreal dreamscapes. Salvadore Dali is so fluid in his painting -everything is like perfect rippling liquid smoke. His paintings are so beautiful, yet so horrible.

THE SCREE!

Never go down to the sea, I say... unless you want to die. For I went down to the sea, you see and I'm lucky I'm alive!

P.S: Hehe - Paul McDermott!

'Til Kingdom Come

Fear.
We fear what we do not know.
The strange.
The deviants.
Fear is eternal.
Fear is essential.
Keeps the children in line...
Scared of the dark.
Senses are heightened in the frightful dark.
There are nightmares.
Things to chill you.
Things to kill you.
The fear of death.
Fear of the deep, dark depths.
Where jaws are waiting to snap you.
Teeth are waiting to gnash you.
Rip and shred you.
Pain and flesh...
Fear
of
death.
The one eternal certainty is that you are going to die.
Everyone you know is going to die.
Returned to the earth to dissolve back into life.
The eternal cycle of life and death.
Love and fear.
Calm and chaos.
The day and the night.
The horror of the darkness.
The wail of the unbearable lonely nights.
Horrors lurking under the bed.
The secret killers are hiding.
There are secret monsters waiting in the night.
Ready to hurt.
Poised to strike.
Teeth, claws, axe and knife.
Dark thoughts like magic invade your dreams.
Poision your mind with the things of evil.
The blindness and confusion consuming you, pulling you deeper into danger.
Spiralling down and down into the dank, frightful corners of the night.
Until...
You wake with a start - light flooding the room.
Morning.
You hug your pillow, safe for another day until the stars come out once more and the fear creeps up on you...
Leaks from under the bed.
Filling the room until you are saturated in cold sweat.
You lay ridgid and awake.
Praying for sleep to come and save you from the strangers in the dark...
But knowing sleep to be no more safe than the strangers in your dreams.
You have tried putting a face to the shadows, for everything becomes less feirce with a name and a face.
But all you see is the silver glint of steel.
A sharp flash of teeth.
There are no faces for these hidden terrors.
They have no names.
There is only the darkness and the terror pulsing through your veins...
Sweet dreams.

Remember that I love you.

I like the version with Cat Power a lot more, but I couldn't find it on youtube...

Yoko Ono - Revelations

Bless you for your anger,
Its a sign of rising energy.
(transform the energy to versatility and it will bring you prosperity)

Bless you for your sorrow,
Its a sign of vulnerability.
(transform the energy to sympathy and it will bring you love)

Bless you for your greed,
Its a sign of great capacity.
(transform the energy to giving,
Give as much as you wish to take and you will receive satisfaction)

Bless you for your jealousy,
Its a sign of empathy.
(transform the energy to admiration
And what you admire will become part of your life)

Bless you for your fear,
Its a sign of wisdom.
(transform the energy to flexibility and you will be free from what you fear)

Bless you for your search of direction.
(transform the energy to receptivity and the direction will come to you)

Bless you for the times you see evil.
(evil feeds on your support. feed not and it will self-destruct.
Shed light and it will cease to be)

Bless you for the times you feel no love.
Open your heart to life anyway
In time you will find love in you.

You are a sea of goodness,
You are a sea of love.
Bless you, bless you, bless you,
Bless you for what you are.

Count your blessings evry day for they are your protection
Which stand between you and what you wish not.

Count your curses and there will be a wall
Which stand between you and what you wish.

The world has all that you need
You have the power to attract what you wish.
Wish for health, wish for joy,
Remember, you are loved.

The world has all that you need
And you have the power to attract what you wish.
Wish for health, wish for joy,
Remember, you are loved.

I love you

From here to ETERNITY.

LOVE.
Love is eternal.

Love is universal.

Love exists in every particle of living energy.

Everything is loved by something.

Everything loves.
Love is not only romantic.

Love is the instinct to run, hunt, hide, fuck, sleep or dance!

Love is the reason honey hugs the roof of your mouth.

Love is the reason clouds sprinkle water turned to ice which coats the world white.
Love is the reason those dear to us will be snatched away.

Love is cruel.

Love will be the end of us - but not the end of everything.

Without the power of love to drive forces of energy, love will cease to exist.

If nothing exists to love, then love can not exist.

There will always be love.

Love comes with a guarantee.

There is no guarantee that you will find love or fall in love, but a guarantee that

you
love.

Like it or not.
Love is the reason the sperm penetrates the egg. Because love propels it.
Our bodies were borne out of love.
We are continuing the cycle of love.
When we die our bodies return to the warm, heavy embrace of the earth to be consumed by the love it holds.
Love comes in abundance.
It is the glue that keeps our ball of dirt and water suspended in space.
It sticks the sky in one place and the ground in another.
Love keeps everything as it should be.

The Original Mermaid

Annette Kellerman: 1887-1975
Swim star and advocate for changes to women's swimwear.

Design Breif

Reinterpret the one-piece swimsuit for the 21st century using a technologically advanced wool/Lycra textile in black.

Look to the past - design for the future. Designs will embody a contemporary aesthetic and active glamour.

Take inspiration from Annette Kellerman - the original mermaid.

Like Chanel's "Little Black Dress", the black swimsuit underpins a minimalist aesthetic that requires exceptional cut, clever trims, flawless construction.

Experiment with creativity and virtuosity to craft a swimsuit that reflects both signature style and design aspiration for brief.

Remember: invention - reinvention.
Stage 1.
Research and develop a collection of designs (six total) from which one swimsuit will be selected for prototyping in Stage 2.
One metre of cotton/Lycra will be provided to sampling swimsuit. One metre of wool/Lycra for the final swimsuit prototype. If trims are used, they must be black and samples must be provided at design selection and must not detract from the overall minimalist aesthetic.
Design Selection - Wednesday 24 March - 9am - Z5.102
Requirements:
  1. Extensive research responding to design brief in the forms of this blog and a design journal.
  2. Samples of elements of design ideas in appropriate stretch fabric.
  3. Concept ideas evidenced through graphics. There is no CAD mark for stage 1.
  4. Collection of six designs on figures for a one-piece swimsuit in response to the brief. Support these with working technical drawings (front, back, sides).
  5. Samples of trimmings where appropriate.

Blog:
Provides an insight and background of design journey. The blog should include images that track the process from design inception, sampling and the final prototype and act as a housing for research. Also, it allows the opportunity for peer-to-peer dialogue.
